Twenty-time, no, wait, twenty-one-time gold medal winner Michael Phelps is having a nice time in Rio. No visible Zika, plus he got a handful of big wins in the Olympic swimming competition. When Phelps celebrated his win in the 200 meter butterfly, we got to see his Maryland roots in action.
During the National Anthem, as Phelps stood on the podium crying with his 20th Olympic gold medal, some goofball ‘hons cheered “O!” and the Baltimore native couldn’t stop laughing.

The full video can be found on NBC’s YouTube page.
I also recorded the audio:
Yelling “O!” is a tradition of Orioles fans (and many Capitals fans) as the anthem nears its end.
And the rocket’s red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night,
That our flag was still there.
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave,
For the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
Phelps confirmed the story to Michele Tafoya during an interview with NBC at the end of the night.
“My boys from Baltimore were down at the other end,” Phelps said. “Back in Maryland we all say ‘O’ for the Orioles during that part of the National Anthem. And all of a sudden I hear them roar ‘O’ and I knew exactly where it came from and I lost it. Those guys came down from Baltimore and New York City to be here. Just special to see those guys in the stands.”
Maryland.
