Want to get the VIP treatment from the Washington Capitals? It’s easy. All you have to do is be from outside North America, have your weekend plans to attend Caps game cancelled by a historic blizzard, then randomly bump into Brooks Laich at the White House. Got it?
As unbelievable as that may sound, it’s exactly what happened to a German Caps fan named Daniel, who was in town to see the Caps take on the Ducks and Penguins but had to implement plan B when the NHL postponed the games on account of the snow.
NHL.com’s Katie Brown has the deets from Kettler this morning:
Brooks Laich was giving a tour to a Caps fan from Germany he met on Saturday. They ran into each other outside the White House.

Daniel (who flew in for the games this weekend), said he became a Caps fan because of seeing Olie Kolzig on the German National Team.

Laich was taking photos outside the White House when Daniel recognized him. They talked, Laich invited him for a tour. A man of the people.

A man of the people indeed. First he changes your flat tire, then he gives you a personal tour of the team’s practice rink. Next thing you know he’ll be filming your wedding with his gyrocopter and producing a custom video set to the Grease Live soundtrack.
But Daniel wasn’t the only out-of-town Caps fans to come out on top of the Blizzard of 2016. After the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg reported on two Swedish dudes who had flown to the U.S. to see the postponed games, owner Ted Leonsis tweeted that he will be inviting them to catch another game from owner’s box, which probably has free nachos.
Just saw this – we will invite these fans as our guests to Owners Box! Stay tuned. https://t.co/KyRKvPltmN
