Steve Dangle Puts Alex Ovechkin’s 500-Goal Milestone In Perspective (Video)

Everyone from Teemu Selanne to Bryce Harper has weighed in on Alex Ovechkin reaching the 500-goal milestone on Sunday night. In his own reaction, Leafs vlogger and Sportsnet contributor Steve Dangle helped put Ovi’s accomplishment into perspective — in his trademark off-the-wall style.

Sporting RMNB’s “8-bit Hot Stick” t-shirt and having apparently just consumed two or more Jolt Colas, Dangle explained just why 500 goals means so much, especially given Ovi’s age and health (so far).

Among the highlights:

  • “At the rate he’s going, it’s no longer a matter of can Ovechkin build a legacy that will stack up against some of the legends of hockey, it’s can the legends stack up to Alexander Ovechkin.”
  • “Lost in Ovechkin’s 500-goal milestone is that he passed Glen Anderson and Lanny McDonald in career goal scoring — in the past week!”
  • He’s two goals away from Peter Bondra’s 40th spot on the all-time goal scoring list.
  • “This guy could really hit 700, something only seven other NHL players have ever done.”

Unrelated to the video, Dangle points out the Caps aren’t that far from securing a playoff spot.
