While the Caps rookies were playing in a prospect tournament in Florida on Saturday morning, the roster players, including new signees TJ Oshie and Justin Williams, took part in another informal skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Most of the team was present minus Evgeny Kuznetsov, Brooks Laich (in LA for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards), Jason Chimera, Matt Niskanen, and the newly engaged Alex Ovechkin, who is expected to arrive on Monday.
The players ran their own drills and scrimmaged. Team White was buoyed by Justin William’s tiny son, Jaxon, who cheered his dad from the bench. Many Caps players took a quick liking to Jaxon as he operated as designated bench door opener for most of the game. He also kept his dad hydrated by squirting Gatorade.
Training camp doesn’t begin until Friday, but the Caps are already hard at work.
