Nostalgics rejoice! The Capitals have unveiled a new third jersey for the 2015-2016 season modeled after the team’s original red jerseys. According to the team’s release, the Caps will wear the throwback sweaters “for select home games” next season.
This means your white throwback, which the Capitals used as a third jersey from the 2011 Winter Classic through the 2014-2015 season, is now a collector’s item. This new red third will replace the white one. The red will be available for purchase at the Verizon Center Team Store, Kettler Capitals Iceplex Team Store and the NHL online shop in October.

The Washington Capitals will wear a third jersey modeled after the team’s original red jersey for select home games during the 2015-16 season, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
The primary color for the uniform is red and closely resembles the team’s jersey worn from 1974-75 through 1994-95. The original Capitals wordmark is featured on the front of the jersey with six stars above it and five stars beneath the numbers on each sleeve. The Capitals will wear blue pants and red helmets with their third jerseys. The new third jersey will replace the white third jersey the Capitals wore from 2011-12 to 2014-15.
The Capitals’ third jerseys will be available in October at the Verizon Center Team Store, Kettler Capitals Iceplex Team Store and online at shop.NHL.com.
