Just two days before scoring the game-winning goal with 12.9 seconds remaining in the 2015 Winter Classic, Troy Brouwer was opening one last Christmas present from his two biggest fans.

Brouwer joined 106.7 The Fan’s John “Cakes” Auville, Capitals radio announcer John Walton, and a handful of listeners and fans for a “Chalk Talk” event at the radio station. The hour-long discussion touched on a wide variety of topics, including Winter Classic anticipation, the Caps’ season, new coach Barry Trotz, what Brouwer thinks the team needs to be a Cup contender, and much more.

The undisputed highlight of the night came about 15 minutes in, when Cakes beckoned Ranger Ryan to the stage to present Brouwer with our gift.

Cakes, Brouwer, and Walton inspected the package, admiring the … unique … gift wrap, with some in the audience wondering aloud if it should be opened in public, if at all.

Once he got over the weirdness of ripping paper featuring his own face on it, Brouwer tore through the gift wrap.

To discover his very own pair of Brouwer Ranger shoes, custom Chuck Taylor All Star high tops, which he dutifully showed off to the crowd.

Here’s a close-up of the shoes. They feature a blue tongue and heel stripe, white eyelets, sidewalls, and stitching, red paneling, racing stripes and laces and the coup de grâce: “brwrpwr” embroidered on the outer heel.

And now Troy Brouwer will look beautiful if he meets Jesus tonight.

After the Chalk Talk, Brouwer stuck around to sign autographs (including our brand new Winter Classic jerseys) and take pictures with fans before heading off to meet his parents, who were flying in from Vancouver tonight to see their son play in the Winter Classic.
