Alex Ovechkin Scores in First Minute, Ends Four-Game Goalless Streak (GIF)

For the first time in his career this season, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has endured a five-game pointless streak. Coming into tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ovechkin had not dented the twine in four straight games.

That unluckiness is now over. Ovechkin has scored his team-leading 13th (oh god) goal of the year. And it only took 40 seconds.

As Tom Wilson sends a backhand pass in front of the net, Ovechkin takes two hacks before the puck squeezes through Ben Bishop’s five-hole.

Unlike previous games, the Caps have came out with some actual urgency tonight. Maybe they read RMNB. Maybe they opened up a newspaper and looked at the standings. I don’t know, but something was different and I love it.
