The Hershey Bears lost their season opener to the Norfolk Admirals, but a goal by Steve Oleksy gave the hometown fans something to cheer about.

Oleksy, having narrowly missed a roster spot with the big club, will spend the season in the AHL unless he gets called up. Plays like this are exactly what Oleksy needs to stay on Washington’s radar.

In the third period, Cameron Schilling stole a clear attempt and crossed it to Oleksy. With a ton of room at the blue line, Oleksy drew closer to the net before releasing a wrister near the face-off dot. The shot beat journeyman goalie Jason LaBarbera over his shoulder.
