Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is receiving a large show of support at the Capitals-Sabres game

Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, collapsed on the field during the Monday Night Football game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The event shocked and worried the entire nation.

Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and CPR was performed before medics were eventually able to get his heart started again. Hamlin was rushed to an area hospital and remains in the ICU sedated and in critical condition.

Tuesday’s game between the Sabres and Capitals marks the first time a professional sports team from Buffalo has played since the tragic incident.

The Sabres and Capitals are going all out to show support to Hamlin.

TJ Oshie writes special tribute to family and unborn son on his game sticks

The NHL has always limited how much individual players can express themselves during games, yet some stars still find a way.

Capitals forward TJ Oshie, for instance, writes a heartfelt tribute on every one of his game sticks. In 2016, we first reported that Oshie wrote the initials of his wife Lauren and his daughter Lyla on his sticks. Now Oshie, a father of two daughters and with a son on the way, has updated his message to include Leni’s initials and three dots for his unborn son.

Montgomery Co. firefighters are taking photos with their number 700 fire trucks after Alex Ovechkin scores a goal

When Alex Ovechkin scored his 700th goal, several exciting things happened. First, Ovechkin became only the eighth player in NHL history to ever hit the milestone. Second, we all got to celebrate his greatness at Capital One Arena and on TVs worldwide.

But Ovi hitting 700 has also resulted in a new tradition started by Montgomery County firefighters.

Every time Ovi scores a new goal, a different fire department has taken a photo in front of their firetruck due to the classification of their emergency vehicles being in the 700s.

Alex Ovechkin wears jersey with number 24 to honor Kobe Bryant during warmups

Alex Ovechkin warmed up in a number 24 jersey prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Nashville Predators.

The jersey paid homage to the late NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday night with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others. Ovechkin will sign and auction the jersey off at a later date to benefit the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.

National Mall tweets tribute to Washington Nationals before start of World Series

The official National Mall Twitter account had some fun on Tuesday morning. In a tribute to the Washington Nationals, the National Park Service tweeted a photo of a curly W mowed into the National Mall’s grass. “Go #Nats, from the (temporarily and unofficially) rechristened @Nationals Mall! #WorldSeries #FinishTheFight” The National Mall NPS wrote.

The viral image appears to be photoshopped, but that only slightly minimizes its awesomeness.

Dallas Stars raise their sticks in emotional tribute to Dave Strader after announcer returns from cancer

Saturday night, longtime Dallas Stars play-by-play man and cancer survivor Dave Strader returned to the booth after a 283-day absence.

Last May, Strader visited several doctors in New York after feeling sick. Strader had his gall bladder removed, but doctors discovered that he had cholangiocarcinoma, an inoperable bile duct cancer. Strader started chemotherapy treatments and has been battling ever since.

“It’s something I’ve been working toward this whole season, and my doctors said this fits in the schedule, so here we go,” Strader said to the Dallas Morning News’ Mike Heika. “We have tried several different treatments, and the doctors said this could help as much as anything else I could do.”

Despite missing the entire 2016-17 season, Strader seamlessly stepped back into the booth Saturday as if nothing ever happened. Strader expertly called an Antoine Roussel hat trick and Jamie Benn’s game-winning overtime goal. After the Stars 4-3 win, the players gave an emotional tribute to Strader by raising their sticks in the air towards the play-by-play booth.
