On February 1, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and team owner Ted Leonsis presented the city of Washington DC with its very own Stanley Cup championship ring.
The ring, which is deconstructed into three pieces to show each side, is encased in a commemorative plaque. The ring was accepted by local firefighters from DCFD Engine Co. 2.
On Monday evening, the handoff was completed as the ring was delivered by a DC Fire Department firetruck to the John A. Wilson Building (City Hall), where the ring will be on display.
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser accepted the ring during an annual Open House event for constituents being held by Bowser’s office on Monday evening.
