Blues beat Capitals 5-2 in Marcus Johansson’s return

The Washington Capitals did not play their best game of the season against the St Louis Blues. The Caps lost track of the game in the second period and never caught up.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored first, getting perhaps a favorable deflection off Colton Parayko’s stick. Brandon Saad returned fire, carving up defenders Orlov and Carlson on his way. Anthony Mantha set up Tom Wilson for a rush goal, but Ryan O’Reilly found a rebound on the power play to tie it up after one period.

The Blues dominated the second period and were rewarded for it with two goals — one from ex-Cap Nathan Walker and another from Brayden Schenn. The Blues added an empty-netter with thirty seconds left in rego.

Caps lose 5-2.

The Capitals get fully yeeted out of St. Louis as the Blues forcefully yoink two points on home ice: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals had a few days off and returned to the ice to take on the Blues in St. Louis. It didn’t go well. They got plastered 5-1 and had to pull their netminder.

Let’s hope tonight against the Wild goes far better.

Capitals get blasted out of the building by the Blues: Blues beat Capitals 5-1

After a handful of days off the Caps returned in St. Louis to take on the Blues in the first half of a road back-to-back. Would there be any rust or could the Caps immediately return to form?

Daniel Sprong put a laser past Ville Husso to open the scoring. Torey Krug snuck down into the offensive zone and fired home a wrister to tie the game. Pavel Buchnevich fired the Blues into the lead with a wicked wrister over Ilya Samsonov’s shoulder. Oskar Sundqvist, Ivan Barbashev, and Buchnevich all added to the hurting.

Blues beat Capitals 5-1.

Live blog: Capitals play Blues in first game of back-to-back

The Washington Capitals are back on the ice after four days off. Washington is in St. Louis to take on the Blues, who are without their star player, Vladimir Tarasenko, due to COVID protocol.

Meanwhile, the Capitals are missing their own core players as Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie are sidelined and not on the road trip due to the flu.

Ilya Samsonov will start against the Blues’ Ville Husso. Watch the game along with us on NBC Sports Washington.

Blues’ leading scorer, Vladimir Tarasenko, lands in COVID protocol ahead of game against Capitals

The St. Louis Blues announced on Thursday afternoon that star forward Vladimir Tarasenko and two others, Scott Perunovich and Jake Walman, were placed into COVID protocol.

The Capitals play the Blues Friday night in the first half of a road back-to-back.

Blues’ Nathan Walker becomes first Australian in NHL history to score a hat trick

The St. Louis Blues are ravaged by injury and COVID-19. So on Wednesday, they made an emergency recall and summoned former Capitals forward Nathan Walker back to the NHL.

Walker, coming into tonight, had scored three goals in 25 career NHL games, which includes his famous butt tally from his NHL debut.

The Aussie quickly doubled that total Thursday night as the emergency call-up turned into the Blues’ star offensive player. Walker scored three times in St. Louis’ 6-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, his first career hat trick.

Devan Dubnyk doesn’t know why Jordan Binnington was ‘skating around, pretending to punch guys’

The NHL had itself a viral moment on Saturday when St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington shoved and punched multiple San Jose Sharks players after being pulled by head coach Craig Berube.

Binnington surrendered four goals in the first 30:26 of the game and then went absolutely buckwild while leaving the ice.

Central Division teams share preview images of their NHL Reverse Retro jerseys

The NHL’s seven Central Division teams shared preview images of their upcoming Reverse Retro jerseys on Saturday. The release follows the Metropolitan Division ond Pacific Division doings so in the days prior.

The photos confirm that the Colorado Avalanche will rock Quebec Nordiques jerseys for the first time in franchise history while the Minnesota Wild seem poised to honor the Minnesota North Stars in theirs. The detail shots of the new sweaters comes after the NHL and Adidas released an animated video showing which year each jersey was inspired by last week.

Blues GM says that ‘like 20 percent’ of its players contracted COVID-19 before playoffs

St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong spoke to reporters on Wednesday and shared some distressing news from Phase 3 Training Camp.

According to Armstrong, 20 percent of the team contracted the coronavirus ahead of the postseason. Armstrong pointed to that issue for being one of the major reasons why the Blues could not repeat as champions. St. Louis was eliminated in the first round by the Vancouver Canucks in six games.
