Sonny Milano reenters Capitals lineup as multiple injured players participate in morning practice

The Washington Capitals will look to quickly bounce back from having their season-long five-game winning streak halted by the Dallas Stars on Thursday. They’ll try to take down a Toronto Maple Leafs team that has won eight of their last 10 games.

At their Saturday morning skate, the Caps saw the return of a few recently absent players who had been out of the lineup due to injury or illness.

Peter Laviolette gives update on injured Capitals, encouraged by the smile on Nicklas Backstrom’s face

The Washington Capitals’ injured list has been like my son’s Christmas list: long and constantly evolving.

Friday, during the Capitals’ optional skate, head coach Peter Laviolette gave updates to the press on all of the guys.

Laviolette saved his most-detailed update for Nicklas Backstrom who is attempting to return from major hip surgery over the offseason.

Update: As per Samantha Pell, Milano has a non-COVID illness.

Capitals fan in Edmonton cries in excitement after getting what appears to be a Sonny Milano stick

The Washington Capitals had one of their best efforts of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, firing 50 shots on net in their narrow 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

I’m happy to report they also did the right things post-game, too.

Minutes after the game ended, NBC Sports Washington cameras captured Capitals equipment manager Brock Myles handing a blue Bauer stick over the glass to a fan wearing an Alex Ovechkin Reverse Retro jersey.

Their reaction was so pure.

Sonny Milano promoted to Capitals’ top line ahead of game against Florida Panthers

The Washington Capitals struggled to get much going offensively against the Tampa Bay Lightning on the road and as a result, mixed things up in their forward lines at practice on Monday.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel ejected after headshot to Cal Foote

Nicolas Aube-Kubel was ejected early in the second period after a bad hit on Lightning defenseman Callan Foote.

The hit is indefensible and will likely earn a suspension from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

One player was going north-south and the other was going east-west.

Sonny Milano set to make Capitals debut against Coyotes

The Washington Capitals are losers of three straight and to avoid a fourth loss in a row they’ll need to beat the Arizona Coyotes in DC on Saturday night. The team held their morning skate before their date with the Yotes and it appears a Caps debut is set for the game.

Mid-season acquisition and recent recall from Hershey, Sonny Milano joined line rushes for the first time this season. He skated on the left wing of the second line with Dylan Strome and Marcus Johansson.

Sonny Milano will not wear Peter Bondra’s number 12 with the Capitals

Sonny Milano wore number 12 with the Anaheim Ducks and when he was signed by the Capitals, he chose the same digits with the Hershey Bears.

Milano, however, will not wear the number in Washington after being called up to the Capitals on Wednesday.

The reason is all too familiar to Caps fans.

After more injury woes, Capitals recall Sonny Milano and two others from Hershey

The Washington Capitals have been devastated by injury this season and Wednesday they made several big transactions.

The team placed TJ Oshie (lower body), John Carlson (lower body), and Beck Malenstyn (upper body) all on injured reserve. Connor Brown was also placed on long-term injured reserve as he’s likely done for the season due to ACL surgery.

Those moves allowed the Capitals to recall three players from AHL Hershey. Forwards Sonny Milano and Garrett Pilon as well as defenseman Lucas Johansen are all on their way to Washington for practice on Thursday.
