Caps fan makes glittery Easter-inspired ‘He Is Risen’ poster for Devante Smith-Pelly

Creative Caps’ fan Miranda is perhaps best known for her hair-larious Carl Hagelin sign. While she made that sign to welcome Hagelin to his new hockey team, her latest sign is welcoming a player back home.

Devante Smith-Pelly returns to the line-up for Game Five on Easter weekend. Of course Miranda had to let him know that she and the Capitals’ fanbase as a whole are happy that he’s risen all the way from Hershey back to DC with an Easter-themed poster.

“He could have gone anywhere after the Cup,” Miranda said, “but he chose to stay here. He knew how important it was for kids in the area to see someone that looks like them playing in their city in the NHL. I think it says a lot about him that that factored into his decision to stay.

“But also,” she added, “he really seems to have fun.” And this poster is nothing if not fun.

Young fan makes sign asking ‘Tom Wilson am I your friend?’

Ten-year-old Will Altman is just about the biggest Tom Wilson fan around–and for good reason. While he thinks of Tom Wilson as his best friend, he wanted to make sure the feeling was mutual. During Game One of the Capitals’ first-round series against the Hurricanes, he brought a poster that asked: “Tom Wilson am I your friend?”

He got a tap on the glass from Tom during Game One, but during Game Two, he not only got a wave and a smile–he also got an enthusiastic thumbs up. What does Will think about that?

“We are officially friends now!”

Prescriptions for Game Four: Win It For Nicky Signs

The Washington Capitals had only a 38% win percentage on the road this season, so getting the W Thursday night is crucial; they just can’t depend on victory away from Verizon Center. But Monday’s home loss to the Bruins was an ugly affair, and the once well composed team fell to shambles. To win Game Four, the Caps are gonna have to dig deep.

I have compiled a series of modest steps the Capitals should take to make it happen. And then we threw in the secret weapon. (Okay, we’ll tell you: more posters.)

Punch This Face: RMNB’s Posters and Mask for Rene Bourque

Did you think we were over this? We’re not.

Nick Backstrom has missed 22 games since absorbing Rene Bourque‘s elbow to his head on January 3rd. He has not skated in practice, and there is no timetable for his return. The Capitals have gone 8-11-3 without Nick Backstrom and are no longer among the east’s top 8. We’ve talked about Bourque endlessly and we even made a Punch-out style video about him, but hell no we’re not over this yet.

Neither is the team. Earlier this month, Brooks Laich told the Washington Post, “I don’t think our guys are ever going to forget what happened.”

The Capitals return home on Friday after a floundering road trip. There’s no reason to believe that any recent trends will magically reverse, so we’re encouraging this sideshow. And that’s why we’re debuting our new campaign for Rene Bourque: PUNCH THIS FACE.
