Capitals recall Hendrix Lapierre from Hershey Bears, place Nic Dowd on injured reserve

Hendrix Lapierre is back in the NHL with the Washington Capitals. Lapierre will make the jump up to the big club for the first time since his surprise inclusion on the team’s roster to open the 2021-22 season.

The Capitals announced on Sunday that they have recalled the 21-year-old center from the AHL’s Hershey Bears after placing veteran forward Nic Dowd on injured reserve. Dowd has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury.

Nic Dowd participates in Capitals morning skate but will not play against Canadiens

The Washington Capitals will finish their short Canadian road trip on Saturday night when they take on the Montreal Canadiens. The team held their scheduled morning skate before the matchup and per the Washington Post’s Bailey Johnson, Nic Dowd participated.

Dowd did not play against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday as it was announced by the team that he was dealing with an upper-body injury. The veteran pivot then also missed Friday’s practice and head coach Spencer Carbery revealed after Saturday’s skate that Dowd will not be in the lineup against the Habs.

Nic Dowd will miss game against Ottawa Senators

The Washington Capitals will be without regular fourth line center Nic Dowd against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. Per team PR, Dowd will not play as he is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Dowd missed the team’s last practice before they departed on their two-game Canadian road trip. The Capitals originally said it was just a maintenance day.

John Carlson, Nic Dowd, and Charlie Lindgren all miss Capitals practice before first road game of season

The Washington Capitals held practice on Tuesday morning after taking care of the Calgary Flames on home ice in a shootout victory on Monday night. Not with the team when they took the ice were three important names.

Number one defenseman John Carlson, checking-line center Nic Dowd, and backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren all were not present. Lindgren is the only one of the three that did not feature in the win against the Flames.

Teams ‘already clamoring’ for Capitals’ Nic Dowd as trade deadline target

The puck hasn’t dropped for the 2023-24 NHL season, yet we’re already getting trade rumors about Washington Capitals players. The Caps, who were trade deadline sellers last year, will look to avoid being in that position again this year but teams will be circling certain players on their roster just in case.

One of the main targets for other clubs will be fourth-line center Nic Dowd. The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Tuesday that “teams are already clamoring” for Dowd as a potential trade deadline target.

Capitals players, including The Great Oshby, attend Brenden Dillon’s wedding

Washington Capitals players had reason to celebrate over the weekend and not just for Tom Wilson’s seven-year extension.

Saturday, a handful of Caps teammates flew out to the Rockies to attend Brenden Dillon’s wedding in Aspen, Colorado.

Amongst the Capitals on the guest list included Tom Wilson, TJ Oshie, Nic Dowd, Nick Jensen, and Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Nic Dowd has undergone core surgery, will be ready for training camp

Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan provided an update on center Nic Dowd after Thursday’s press conference introducing new head coach Spencer Carbery. Speaking with several members of the media, MacLellan revealed that Dowd has undergone a surgical procedure on his core but is expected to recover before training camp.

Dowd suggested that surgery could be on the horizon during his Breakdown Day interview. He missed the final three games of the season with an undisclosed injury.

Nic Dowd may need surgery over the summer, will watch Paw Patrol over playoff hockey

At the Capitals’ Breakdown Day on Saturday, veteran center Nic Dowd revealed that he could require surgery over the offseason.

Dowd missed the final three games of the season with an undisclosed injury. It marked the second prolonged absence of his season; he had missed 16 games earlier in the season following a big hit from the New York Islanders’ Cal Clutterbuck.

After the Washington Capitals’ official elimination from postseason contention, they’ve had time to reflect back on the season and where it’s gone wrong. Nic Dowd discussed the reasons behind the Capitals’ decline in an interview with 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier on Monday.

Dowd argued that no single problem sunk the Caps’ season. Instead, a host of problems have led to wider failure in the team’s systems.
