Ted Leonsis gifted 200 employees a surprise trip to Las Vegas to attend the Caps’ Stanley Cup Final games

Last Wednesday, the Caps advanced to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 20 years with a Game 7 win over Tampa Bay. The joy of the fans and the players was profound, but it’s possible that no one was more ecstatic than Capitals owner Ted Leonsis, who has owned the team and witnessed its struggles firsthand since 1999.

It’s clear that Leonsis was eager to share his elation. The morning after the win, 200 Monumental Sports & Entertainment employees received an email with an invite to go to Las Vegas for free. The trip would be courtesy of Leonsis, who owns and founded MSE.

Report: The Capitals were appraised to be worth nearly 1 billion dollars

When Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, bought 20% of Monumental Sports and Entertainment several weeks ago, that set in motion a valuation of the sports teams Ted Leonsis owns.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Capitals were valuated at nearly 1 billion dollars.

Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Steve Jobs, is buying a stake in the Capitals and Wizards

The Associated Press is reporting that Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, has agreed to buy a 20 percent stake in Ted Leonsis’ Monumental Sports & Entertainment. Powell Jobs will have the second-largest stake in the 19-person Monumental group. Leonsis would remain the majority owner, chairman, and CEO.

The 53-year-old business woman has a net worth of $14.3 billion (as of May 2017). According to Wikipedia, she is the executive and the founder of Emerson Collective, which advocates for policies concerning education and immigration reform, social justice, and environmental conservation.

Sorry, Hershey. Mars candy is now the ‘official chocolate’ of the Washington Capitals.

After pictures of the new ice sheet at Capital One Arena suggested Peanut M&M’s was becoming a sponsor of the Washington Capitals, Monumental Sports & Entertainment today announced the sponsorship deal is in fact much broader. MSE and Mars Wrigley Confectionery have reached a multi-year sponsorship agreement that makes Mars candy the “official chocolate” of the Washington Capitals.

In addition to the on-ice logo, the agreement includes advertisements in the home penalty box and additional advertisements inside and outside the arena bowl. Mars Wrigley products — which include M&M’s, Snickers, Dove, Twix, Skittle, Starburst and something called Maltesers, among others — will be sold throughout Capital One Arena, and MSE promise “addition unique, VIP experiences and opportunities for fans to connect with Mars Wrigley Confectionery brands.”

Peter on Monumental Network’s Press Row (Video)

I joined Dave Johnson and MSE’s Jacob Raim for Press Row today. We talked Caps hockey: Ovechkin’s awesomeness, problems in the defensive zone, the glory of Grabo, and goalie drama. We also talked about basketball, but I kind of blacked out there for a second.
