Michael Latta congratulates Nicklas Backstrom for reaching 700-point milestone

Monday afternoon, former Capitals forward Michael Latta had some kind words for his “dad” and former teammate, Nicklas Backstrom.

Over the weekend, Backstrom became the fourth player in Caps history to record 700 points, joining Alex Ovechkin (1,017), Peter Bondra (825), and Mike Gartner (789). According to the Caps PR, Backstrom also became and the eighth-fastest active player to reach 700 NHL points (708 GP), trailing Sidney Crosby (497), Jaromir Jagr (557), Ovechkin (579), Evgeni Malkin (580), Patrick Kane (696), Jason Spezza (700), and Joe Thornton (706).

In trade of former Capitals, Kings send Michael Latta to Blackhawks for Cam Schilling

A trade just went down that might concern Capitals fans the most.

The Los Angeles Kings traded enforcer Michael Latta to the Chicago Blackhawks for Cam Schilling. Seriously.

Latta was non-tendered by the Capitals last season, while Schilling signed with the Blackhawks ahead of the 2015-16 season.

Los Angeles Kings put Michael Latta on waivers

In June, fan favorite Michael Latta was non-tendered by the Washington Capitals. A week later, the former Caps roomie landed in Los Angeles on a one-way, one-year deal worth $600.

On Monday, the Kings put Latta on waivers with the intention to send him down to the American Hockey League’s Ontario Reign.

The first and likely last Tom Wilson and Michael Latta signed ketchup bottle

Two years ago, former Caps roomies Tom Wilson and Michael Latta gave a ridiculous tour of their apartment for EPIX’s The Road to the Winter Classic. It became an internet phenomenon. The tour included a look inside Wilson and Latta’s mostly empty refrigerator, which included three bottles of Heinz Ketchup.

Since then, the two players have become synonymous with ketchup. Last year, Caps fans baked ketchup cookies for Wilson and Latta. Another, reader/regular commenter Gene got a ketchup bottle signed by Michael Latta at an autograph signing.

On Saturday, Gene and his adorable son got Wilson to autograph it too, which now gives the family possession of what I’m guessing is the first and last Caps roomie, dually signed ketchup bottle.
