NHL mascots are the newest line of Funko POP! figurines

Look out, collectors. NHL mascots are the latest to get the Funko POP! treatment.

On Thursday, the company teased the release of the new collectibles with previews of six NHL mascots in figurine form: Gritty (Philadelphia Flyers), Tommy Hawk (Chicago Blackhawks), NJ Devil (New Jersey Devils), Blades (Boston Bruins), and Chance (Vegas Golden Knights). The last mascot, Toronto Maple Leafs’ Carlton, is only available through Canadian distributor Grosnor.

No formal release date was given for the NHL mascots line, just a mysterious “coming soon”.

While Funko has released a number of Capitals players figurines in the past, like TJ Oshie last year, it does not appear that Slapshot, the Capitals mascot, will be included in this first wave of Funko POP! mascots. That’s probably better for our wallets anyway.

The best reactions to the Flyers’ new mascot Gritty

It’s been a stressful week, but at least it’s–oh. Monday.

Thankfully, the Flyers revealed their new mascot Gritty, and he/she/it is both giving us life and keeping us awake at night. It will haunt our dreams when sleep finally overtakes us. If we survive the nightmares of its gloriously gyrating belly, it will make us breakfast in the morning and stare at us with its googly eyes while we eat.

The Canucks wanted to send their mascot Fin to represent them at the draft lottery, but the NHL said no

Saturday night, the NHL held the 2018 Draft Lottery in Toronto.

Each of the 15 clubs that did not qualify for the postseason (or the teams that acquired the first-round picks of those non-playoff clubs) each had to send a representative for the live telecast.

Per Elliotte Friedman, Vancouver’s creative idea for a rep was ultimately rejected by the league.

The Vegas Golden Knights’ new mascot is Chance and you should stop being rude to him

Friday night, the Vegas Golden Knights faced off at home against the Detriot Red Wings and unveiled their brand new mascot. His name is Chance, he is a Gila monster, and I strongly believe that he is not being given enough love.

Slapshot invites random mascots to Verizon Center for dance party and dodgeball game

The Washington Capitals hosted Caps Kids Day on Saturday and had some special guests in the house for the Ducks game: Louie from the St. Louis Blues, Bernie The Saint Bernard from the Colorado Avalanche, Poe from the Baltimore Raves, Screech from the Nationals, The Oriole Bird, and G-Wiz from the Washington Wizards.

The mascots first engaged in a dance off in the lower bowl.

Dressed as mascots, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, and Evgeny Kuznetsov play children during first intermission of KHL game

Ahead of the World Cup of Hockey, the Russian national team has been practicing together in St. Petersburg. On Thursday, Alex Ovechkin participated in Knowledge Day ceremonies, welcoming children back to school. Today, in that same vein, the Russian machine joined Evgeny Kuznetsov and Evgeni Malkin out on the ice to play hockey against children during the first intermission of the SKA/Lada Togliatti game.

The Russian superstars were dressed — I’m serious — as mascots.
