Stanley Cup gamesmanship: Alex Ovechkin and Marc-Andre Fleury slash each other during pregame warmups

Alex Ovechkin has become a very superstitious hockey player during this year’s playoff run. From moving bar stools to a certain place, eating heavy Italian food, or screaming at TJ Oshie, Ovechkin has a very specific set of routines he must complete so that his world is aligned and his luck earned. But the Vegas Golden Knights have tried to get in his head.

Ahead of Game Three of the Stanley Cup Final, Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault trolled Ovi with a hot lap at Capital One Arena. During Game Two, Marc-Andre Fleury squirted Gatorade over Ovechkin’s spot on the ice, mocking his superstition.

Ovechkin got MAF back, however, Thursday night in Vegas.

Marc-Andre Fleury mocks Alex Ovechkin’s pregame warmup routine

Alex Ovechkin has a long list of superstitions and pregame routines. From chest bumps, high fives, cup checks, and screaming at TJ Oshie, Ovi’s becoming rookie year Karl Alzner in front of our eyes.

Wednesday, while on the ice for warmups ahead of Game Two, Ovechkin squirted a bottle of gatorade on the ice around the bench. He does this before both home and away games, and Marc-Andre Fleury took special notice to this last night.

Ahead of the Stanley Cup Final, Jimmy Fallon featured Capitals and Golden Knights players in NHL Superlatives

Before the Stanley Cup Final kicks off, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon graced us all with another round of his popular NHL Superlatives segment.

This time, Fallon covered players from only the two final teams which gave us more superlatives for Capitals players including Alex Ovechkin, Braden Holtby, Jay Beagle, Jakub Vrana, Brett Connolly, and Philipp Grubauer.

That time Marc-Andre Fleury became a curler during a hockey game

Marc-Andre Fleury must have been watching the Olympics because the three-time Stanley Cup-winning goaltender debuted a new stick-handling move Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings.

After a Kings clear during a first period Golden Knights power play, the biscuit bounced off the boards and died outside the trapezoid where Fleury could play the puck.

Fleury, who is a notoriously silly human, decided to mess around as he waited for Colin Miller to retrieve the puck.

Marc Andre-Fleury’s stick celebration after that Game Seven save on Ovechkin was not safe for kids

Marc Andre-Fleury served as the backup of Matt Murray in his final season for Pittsburgh. After a difficult regular season, MAF started in the playoffs over an injured Murray. He became a god, especially during the second round against the Capitals.

There was that miraculous reach-behind-his-body save on Evgeny Kuznetsov. There was also that crazy Game Seven stick save on Alex Ovechkin.

Two days after Nate Schmidt’s homecoming game in Washington, three-time Stanley Cup champion Marc-Andre Fleury returned to Pittsburgh for the first time since being selected in the expansion draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.

He got a huge reception.

Here’s Marc Andre-Fluery in full goalie gear savagely dangling four youth hockey players

NHL Media Day had some interesting quirks this year, including players poorly drawing their own team’s logo.

One other media day standout was Vegas Golden Knights’ goaltender Marc Andre-Fluery. While filming Wednesday Night Rivalry promo video, three youth hockey players and a goalie — all wearing Sharks jerseys — were asked play MAF.

I’m sad to report they barely touched the puck. That’s because the kids spent a majority of their time playing defense and getting dangled to death by MAF in full-goalie gear.

In an instant, Marc-Andre Fleury became the face of the Vegas Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS — When Sidney Crosby speaks to the media, he always attracts a horde of reporters. Most are contorted as if they were doing yoga just to get a few quotes from the arguably best player in the world. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain was holding the Stanley Cup after the NHL Awards Wednesday before entering the cramped makeshift interview room at T-Mobile arena, the home of the brand new Vegas Golden Knights.

But this night was different.

While Crosby spoke, a mass of around 25 reporters gathered around an empty podium. They stood there for about 30 minutes waiting to hear from Marc-Andre Fleury, who was picked by Vegas after he was demoted in Pittsburgh. Finally, after conversations and goodbyes to his Cup winning former teammates, the Golden Knights goaltender stepped up to the lectern.

Fleury is 32 now. He was 19 when he began playing for Pittsburgh. The netminder has spent over 40 percent of his life wearing an angry Penguin on his chest, winning the Cup three times along the way

“It was time,” Fleury said Wednesday night, exactly 14 years after he was drafted by the Penguins.

Finally mortal: Marc-Andre Fleury chased after giving up four goals in first period

The Pittsburgh Penguins now trail the Ottawa Senators 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Final after getting blown out Wednesday.

Like Cinderalla’s carriage at midnight, Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who has posted a ridiculous .931 save percentage during the postseason, finally turned into a pumpkin.

MAF allowed four goals on nine shots and was pulled 13 minutes into the game.

Let’s review, shall we?
