Charlie Lindgren to start against Blue Jackets after Darcy Kuemper pulled in two of last four starts

The Washington Capitals took the ice in Columbus on Tuesday for their last morning skate before the league pauses for All-Star festivities in Florida. The Caps will take on the Blue Jackets and then not play again until February 11 as their scheduled bye week of the season comes immediately when NHL games are planned to resume.

The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell reports that Charlie Lindgren will be in goal for the Capitals. Lindgren will get his first start since January 17 after regular number-one netminder Darcy Kuemper was pulled in two of the last four games.

Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie will play against Penguins after missing game against Avalanche

The Washington Capitals will get two of their stars back against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Thursday.

Forwards Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie both took line rushes at the team’s morning skate and are slated to play in the big divisional game.

Anthony Mantha will be healthy scratch again against Coyotes, Alex Alexeyev reenters lineup

Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette seems to have found a lineup that he likes after five games of massive changes and uncertainty. Lavy has his forward group lined up for Thursday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes the same way he did against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

That news means that forward Anthony Mantha is slated to be a healthy scratch for the fourth time in six games. Mantha did not play against the Wild and has not skated in a game since Monday in New York.

The Capitals have lost three of their last five games since Backstrom and Wilson returned.

Lars Eller looks to be likely healthy scratch against New York Islanders

The Washington Capitals’ lineup will look a little more familiar against the New York Islanders on Monday night but without a vital member of the 2018 Stanley Cup championship team.

Via reporting from the Washington Post’s Samantha Pell, third-line center Lars Eller will be the latest prominent name to sit as the Capitals work Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson back.

Dylan Strome placed on wing of fourth line as Peter Laviolette continues experimenting with forward combinations

The Washington Capitals held a short practice on Friday morning at a jam-packed MedStar Capitals Iceplex. The team hosted a field trip at the rink, 802 “juiced up” elementary kids from Arlington County Public Schools, to celebrate Alex Ovechkin hitting the 800 goals milestone and passing Gordie Howe for second on the NHL’s all-time goals list in December.

“I thought we felt it out there,” Laviolette said. “We felt that engine (from the kids). I thought practice was good. I thank them for that. It was a good peppy practice for 30 minutes. The kids had a lot to do with that.”

The Capitals did have new line combinations, per NBC Sports Washington’s Matt Weyrich, but it’s unclear how to much to make of them.

Capitals debut new lines at practice, which includes Lars Eller on the wing

The Washington Capitals got on the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Tuesday for their first full-team practice following a 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

While the win was good, the victory not flawless. The W was powered by goaltender Darcy Kuemper as the team in front of him struggled. The Capitals’ forward lines in particular lacked chemistry as the team reintegrated Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson into the lineup.

In response, Caps head coach Peter Laviolette put together a new set of interesting lines at practice.

The Capitals lines with Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson back

The Washington Capitals announced on Saturday that Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson would be making their season debuts against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. With an optional morning skate, where exactly they would line up remained unknown until half an hour before puck drop.

After the Caps took their warmup line rushes, we now know both will be in the top six forward group but on separate lines.

Anthony Mantha placed on fourth line as Capitals lines get shakeup before Blue Jackets game

The Washington Capitals took a quick flight up to Columbus for a one-game Metropolitan Division road trip against the Blue Jackets. They’ll do so with a pretty interesting shakeup in their forward lines mainly due to Nic Dowd not traveling with the team.

That shakeup will see Anthony Mantha skate as the fourth line’s left wing. It’s an interesting move for a player that was originally acquired more for his offensive abilities but has shown to be a reliable two-way forward.

TJ Oshie sheds non-contact jersey during Capitals’ morning skate

TJ Oshie took a major step toward returning to game action with the Capitals.

The right winger shed his non-contact jersey for the first time since going down injured. Oshie joined Tom Wilson and Martin Fehervary as the Capitals’ extras during the team’s morning skate. None of the three players will suit up against the Ottawa Senators.
