While The Washington Post’s Barry Svrluga is already planning a parade, Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg had some interesting thoughts after his team’s 6-3 loss to the Capitals.
Two nights earlier, Detroit played another Metropolitan Division superpower, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Zetterberg was asked to compare the two teams.
To conclude her trip in Washington DC, the Capitals had Fatima Al Ali drop the puck during the team’s ceremonial faceoff Thursday against the Red Wings. After Fatima dropped the puck, she asked Alex Ovechkin and Henrik Zetterberg to take a selfie. The two players obliged.
This is the incredible result.
About an hour after a three-judge federal appeals panel unanimously refused to reinstate President Trump’s travel ban, UAE hockey player and media sensation Fatima Al Ali dropped the puck during a ceremonial faceoff between Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg. The Verizon Center is 1.2 miles away from The White House.
Fatima was given a free trip to Washington DC after impressing Peter Bondra with her unbelievable stickhandling skills. Thursday night, Fatima concluded her dream trip in style by dropping the puck in front of approximately 18,000 fans.
10:23 p.m. was not a good time for the Washington Capitals on Monday. That’s when the clock hit zero, putting the Caps down 2-1 in their best of seven quarterfinal matchup with the Bruins. But it was also what happened after the whistle that could haunt the team’s postseason chances.
As the final seconds ticked off and the Caps dropped the game 4-3, Boston’s Rich Peverley and Alex Ovechkin got into a scuffle. Coming to the aid of his buddy, Nicklas Backstrom delivered a cross-check up high on the Bruins forward. That’s when the inconsistent officiating of this series — and these playoffs as a whole — once again reared its head. For his infraction — the third called against him in the game — Backstrom was assessed a match penalty.

The Capitals came back twice against the Detroit Red Wings Wednesday night, but it would be a matter of inches that would stop them from extending their winning streak to ten games.
The Wings’ Henrik Zetterberg opened the scoring at 12:23 at in first period, firing a one-timer over Caps ‘keeper Michal Neuvirth’s shoulder. Washington would get it right back, however, as John Carlson’s blast from the point found twine just 33 seconds later. D.J. King got his second point of season on the play. I know! Woo!!! Less than two minutes after the Caps tally, Detroit would once again jump out in front as Valtteri Flippula clogged up the crease and deflected Brian Rafalski’s slapper past Neuvirth.
Alex Ovechkin would tie things up once again under six minutes into the middle frame. After taking a nifty backhand pass from Alexander Semin, Ovi raced up the middle going one-on-one with Brad Stuart before firing a wicked wrist shot through Stuart’s legs. Boom! 2-2.
Midway through the third period, Zetterberg would knot his second tally of the night. He lifted the puck over Neuvirth’s head from a sharp angle as the Czech netminder hugged the post. The Capitals attempted to rally late and came this close to doing so as Semin’s wrist shot hit just off target, ringing the crossbar with just 20 seconds remaining. Streak over. Wings edge Caps, 3-2.
