Several Columbus Blue Jackets players test positive for COVID-19

A day after Frank Seravalli revealed that Vegas Golden Knights had at least four players test positive for COVID-19, he reported that the Columbus Blue Jackets have a “significant” outbreak of their own.

The Blue Jackets would only confirm that “several” players tested positive and that they have closed their off-ice facilities at Nationwide Arena.

Ohio had a state record 11,885 positive cases on Monday and is being rocked by an exponential explosion in hospitalizations per The Hill.

Four Vegas Golden Knights players test positive for COVID-19

The Vegas Golden Knights are the first team since the 2020 playoffs ended to grapple with an outbreak of coronavirus.

Monday night, TSN’s Frank Seravalli reported that four Golden Knights players tested positive and are currently self-isolating.

Nevada had a state record 1,868 positive cases on Friday. Governor Steve Sisolak announced a three-week “statewide pause” to tighten restrictions on casinos, restaurants, and private gatherings in an effort to slow the spread of the disease.

Alex Ovechkin’s mother Tatyana contracted coronavirus, Ovi says he has antibodies

Alex Ovechkin did a long interview with Tina Kandelaki of Russian Television International on Thursday. Ovechkin addressed a variety of topics including how he’d like to wind down his hockey career and what it’s like knowing two of the most powerful people in the world.

Ovechkin also revealed during the chat that his family has not been spared of the novel coronavirus. Ovi’s mom, Tatyana Ovechkina, contracted COVID-19.

Report: Several owners have told Gary Bettman the NHL might be better off financially not playing next season

The NHL is likely going to play next season, but several owners are already grappling with the economic realities of possibly taking the ice with limited to no ticket sales. Currently, in the United States, the coronavirus pandemic is raging out of control as the country set a new daily record of positive cases (99.784) on October 30 with no end in sight.

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan and Greg Wyshynski reported on Monday that several NHL owners suggested to Gary Bettman that the NHL might be better off financially not playing.

NHL postpones Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend

The NHL announced in a press release on Thursday that the league will not be holding the Winter Classic or All-Star Weekend due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“[W]e felt that the prudent decision at this time was to postpone these celebrations until 2022 when our fans should be able to enjoy and celebrate these tentpole events in-person, as they were always intended,” the NHL’s Steve Mayer said in a statement.

Connor McDavid tests positive for coronavirus

The Edmonton Oilers announced Monday night that Connor McDavid has tested positive for COVID-19. According to the team, McDavid underwent medical testing earlier in the day that revealed the positive test. He is experiencing mild symtomps currently.

The Oilers added that McDavid is self-quarantining at his home and will follow all safety protocols.

Pandemic precautions ignored by players and fans during Lightning’s Stanley Cup parade and rally

The Tampa Bay Lightning may have endangered the lives of Floridians on Wednesday.

After winning the franchise’s second Stanley Cup in the Edmonton bubble, the Lightning held a championship boat parade and rally back home during a coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 200,000 people in the United States (a fifth of all deaths worldwide). While the team took precautions and encouraged social distancing ahead of time, those practices did not sustain. Lightning players and fans got sloppy as Bolts faithful tried to get close to the most famous trophy in sports.

The players generated several cringe-worthy moments that were heavily criticized on social media.

NHL announces seventh-straight week of no positive COVID-19 tests inside bubble

The NHL announced on Monday that it has had no positive COVID-19 tets for the seventh-straight week inside the bubble.

There were 0 positive cases in 1,357 COVID-19 tests run.

The Stanley Cup is currently quarantining in Edmonton

In another sign of the times, the Stanley Cup and its keeper, Philip Pritchard, are currently under quarantine in Edmonton before entering the NHL’s bubble.

Pritchard revealed the news on Friday as he documented his trip to the fourth largest city in Canada. The NHL’s Conference Finals are currently being played nearby at Rogers Place.
