Evgeny Kuznetsov latest player to return for Capitals’ informal skates

As Capitals’ Training Camp draws closer, more players are returning to the area and getting on the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for informal workouts.

Monday, some of the team’s key offensive weapons joined the group per The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir. The smattering of players participated in a small scrimmage.

El-Bashir reported that John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, TJ Oshie, Anthony Mantha, Dmitry Orlov, Carl Hagelin, Nick Jensen, Garnet Hathaway, Joe Snively, Sam Anas, and Alex Alexeyev took the ice.

Anthony Mantha on his increased role to start the season due to team injuries: ‘I’m going to have to step up’

The Washington Capitals traded Jakub Vrana for forward Anthony Mantha at the 2021 Trade Deadline with the expectation that the French Canadian would bring stability and consistent point-producing to the team’s top-six forward group.

But since arriving in DC, Mantha’s struggled to stay healthy and consistently contribute. A serious shoulder injury early last season sidelined him for over half of the 2021-22 season. Mantha’s registered 31 points (13g, 18a) in 51 regular-season games, but scored no goals in two postseason series with the team.

With both Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson out long term to start the year, Mantha understands he must make more of an impact.

Anthony Mantha’s Herculean effort in Game Three powers Capitals to win

If you had to pick one Capitals player that was the biggest difference-maker on Saturday, Anthony Mantha would arguably be that guy. Known in these parts as Millie’s Dad, the big French Canadian forward played tenacious, fast, and with an edge. Kinda how I imagine Millie Mantha is like when she’s super hungry and getting frustrated that you’re ignoring her barks.

“Our last game pissed us off a little bit,” Marcus Johansson said of the Caps’ 5-1 loss in Game Two.

Those qualities combined to give Mantha one of his most dominant performances since being acquired from the Detroit Red Wings for Jakub Vrana in 2021.

Anthony Mantha and Caitlyn Duffy announce they’re having a baby girl

Anthony Mantha, who is already really strong, will soon have dad strength.

Sunday, Mantha’s fiancee, Caitlyn Duffy, announced that she was pregnant with a baby girl.

The two made the reveal while Anthony hit a golf ball with a golf club. The ball exploded revealing a pink powder in the air.

Jakub Vrana and Anthony Mantha both scored on the same night after recovering from major shoulder surgeries

Jakub Vrana and Anthony Mantha were the major pieces in a deal between the Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings at last season’s trade deadline. The deal was remarkably even. Both players are about the same age (Vrana, 26; Mantha, 27), of the same skill (Vrana, 169 points; Mantha, 209 points), and make nearly the same amount per season (Vrana, $5.25M; Mantha, $5.7M).

Their mirror-like careers have continued on the same trajectory during the 2021-22 season. Both Vrana and Mantha missed huge swaths of time due to major shoulder injuries – Jake in September and Mantha in November. They both returned to game action in early March. And on Tuesday, they scored their first goals on the same night since undergoing surgery.

Capitals officially activate Anthony Mantha from LTIR

The Washington Capitals announced late Thursday afternoon that forward Anthony Mantha was activated off of long-term injured reserve.

To make room for Mantha’s return, forward Carl Hagelin was placed on long-term injured reserve and forward Joe Snively was placed on regular injured reserve.

Anthony Mantha appears likely to make his return from injury against Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals likely will get a big jolt to their lineup Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Forward Anthony Mantha, who has been out due to shoulder surgery since early November, looks like he’ll be making his long-awaited return.

Caps head coach Peter Laviolette wouldn’t fully commit to Mantha dressing after the team’s morning skate but the signs are he’s absolutely playing.

Anthony Mantha not ruled out for Thursday’s game against Carolina Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals have lost six straight games at home and are clinging to the second wildcard spot in the East. The team badly needs a boost, which may be why they could be turning to recovering forward Anthony Mantha sooner than expected.

Wednesday, Peter Laviolette was asked about Mantha’s status for Thursday’s Carolina Hurricanes game. Laviolette did not rule the star forward out from playing.

“He’s looking better every day,” Laviolette said. “He’s had another good practice and he’s looked really strong out there.”

Anthony Mantha cleared for contact for first time since shoulder surgery

The Washington Capitals are back in DC and preparing to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs for the first time since 2019. The team will look to get their first win post-bye week after dropping two in a row to the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.

According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, Anthony Mantha shed his non-contact jersey and is now cleared for contact.

Mantha won’t be in the lineup against the Maple Leafs, but it’s an incredibly positive sign for the forward who has been out since early November due to shoulder surgery.
