NBC Sports Washington posted footage of the Capitals from warmups on Wednesday, and I’m happy to say the team continued its weird pregame routines. And maybe added some new ones?
A quick summary. The Capitals did their individual high fives in the tunnel. John Carlson and Jakub Vrana also did some dancing. TJ Oshie and Tom Wilson also continued their NHL-best butt slashes.

While the Washington Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in their bubble debut, there was one concerning matter to address afterward. The Caps lost John Carlson midway through the third period after the Norris Trophy finalist tripped and fell awkwardly into the end boards.
Carlson skated off under his own power. Eventually, he retreated to the locker room and did not return.

The Washington Capitals played a real-life hockey game against the Carolina Hurricanes and it felt extremely weird…but also extremely right.
Things just made sense, even more, when Alex Ovechkin opened the scoring from his office. Vincent Trocheck, noted Caps killer, got some black magic luck to tie things for the Canes. Evgeny Kuznetsov finished off a beautiful passing play to restore the Caps lead. That dude again, Ovi slammed home a great feed from Tom Wilson to extended said lead.
Teuvo Teravainen drew the Canes back within one on a five-on-three advantage early in the third.

Alex Ovechkin now has two goals in Wednesday’s exhibition game, finally giving him fifty goals on the season (not really; this doesn’t count).
Ovi’s second of the day came on a brilliant pass from Tom Wilson.
The NHL is still working out the kinks of its broadcasts.
During the second period of Wednesday’s Caps-Canes’ exhibition, official Francis Charron skated over to the penalty box to announce a two-minute high-sticking penalty on Carl Hagelin. Except, when he announced it, Charron sounded like he was performing an exorcism.
Three Russian Caps teamed up to restore Washington’s lead in Wednesday’s exhibition game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In the first period of Washington’s first exhibition game, Alex Ovechkin has scored his first goal since March 9, which was also his most recent game. Seems like four months of rust have nothing on the Russian machine, whose power-play skill shot beat Petr Mrazek in the seven-hole.
If hockey’s back, then so too is the Ovi Shot from the Ovi Spot.

Honestly, I don’t have much to tell you. This all feels very strange and it’s entirely too hot outside to be talking hockey, but here we are. Welcome back, everyone.
The Capitals will be facing off against the Carolina Hurricanes in an exhibition game before the Stanley Cup qualifying round kicks off this weekend. Samantha Pell with the Washington Post reported that while this is simply a fun game that won’t mean anything for the playoffs, you can expect that the Capitals will be treating this like a dress rehearsal for the postseason. I will also be treating this like a dress rehearsal for the postseason. Need to find my jerseys, figure out my lucky drink, and draft some punny tweets.
