Welcome Back, Carly: Caps Down Devils 1-0 After John Carlson Scores OTGWG

Friday night is the best night of the week, unless you’re watching the Capitals play the Devils. New Jersey, who is six points out of the eighth and final playoff spot, spent the entire game playing some dump-and-chase, low event hockey. They did this hoping that by slowing the pace down, they could catch the NHL’s best team snoozing and eek out a much-needed win.

It did not work. The Caps are just too darn good.

After 60 minutes of a 0-0 tie, John Carlson, in his first game since February 24, blasted a one-timer past Scott Wedgewood 2:17 into overtime. Like it was fate, the goal came on the six year anniversary of Carlson’s first NHL goal.

Caps win their 53rd game of the season, 1-0.

GIF Recap: Three-Point Night for Marcus Johansson as Caps Beat Predators 5-3

Marcus Johansson returned to the Capitals lineup on Tuesday after missing four games with an upper-body injury. He did pretty okay. Johansson recorded three points as the Capitals beat the Predators 5-3. Johansson had a goal and two assists, with Jason Chimera, Tom Wilson, Justin Williams and Alex Ovechkin also finding the net. Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded his 100th career NHL point with his assist on Justin Williams’ third period goal.

GIF Recap: Andre Burakovsky Scores Twice in Caps OT Loss to Flyers

The Capitals first game in eight days ended with a deflating 4-3 overtime loss to the Flyers. Andre Burakovsky opened the Caps’ scoring and also forced overtime after roofing home a beautiful pass from a dabbing Evgeny Kuznetsov. Jakub Voracek won the game for the Flyers 38 seconds into overtime.

Caps’ first-line center Nicklas Backstrom also scored.

GIF Recap: Four Assists for Kuznetsov as Caps Beat Blue Jackets 6-3

Braden Holtby earned his league-leading 30th win as the Capitals beat the Blue Jackets 6-3 on Tuesday night. Nicklas Backstrom scored twice, with Alex Ovechkin, Marcus Johansson, Jason Chimera and Andre Burakovsky also scoring. Evgeny Kuznetsov once again starred with a career-high four assists.

GIF Recap: Williams Scores Hat Trick as Caps Beat Rangers 5-2

The Capitals bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Buffalo by beating the New York Rangers 5-2 at Verizon Center on Sunday. Justin Williams recorded his first Caps hat-trick with Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson completing the scoring.

GIF Recap: Three-Point Night for Evgeny Kuznetsov as Caps Beat Canucks 4-1

The Capitals continued their good form on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Verizon Center. Evgeny Kuznetsov opened the scoring for the Caps before pulling off another backhanded, behind the net assist to Tom Wilson for Willy’s fourth goal of the season. Karl Alzner also scored for the Caps, with Kuznetsov adding his second on the night with an empty-net goal.

GIF Recap: Ovi’s 500th as Caps Beat Sens 7-1

Alex Ovechkin became the first Russian to score 500 NHL goals and the fifth fastest player to reach that milestone on Sunday night, as the Capitals beat the Senators 7-1 at Verizon Center. Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie, Zach Still, and Dmitry Orlov had put the Caps up 4-1 before Ovechkin tallied on the PP, becoming the first Washington Capitals player to score 500 goals. Tom Wilson added a sixth midway through the third period, then Ovechkin scored his second of the game, powering past Erik Karlsson to get his 501st NHL goal and the Capitals seventh goal of the night.

GIF Recap: Ovi Stars as Caps Beat NYR in OT

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals as the Capitals beat the New York Rangers 4-3 (OT) at Madison Square Gardens on Saturday evening. Ovechkin and Justin Williams had put the Caps 2-0 up but the Rangers fought back in the third period to lead 3-2. Nicklas Backstrom equalised with 5.7 seconds remaining and Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal 1:25 into overtime to take him to 499 NHL career goals.

GIF Recap: Caps Beat Isles 4-1, Alex Ovechkin Scores 497th Career Goal

The Capitals beat the Islanders 4-1 on Thursday night at Barclays Center to extend their season record to 30-7-3. Alex Ovechkin scored his 22nd goal of the season bringing his career total to 497 goals. Jason Chimera and Nate Schimdt also scored for the Caps with Nicklas Backstrom adding an empty net-goal in the waning minutes.

GIF Recap: Evgeny Kuznetsov Goes HAM as Caps Beat Bruins 3-2

The Capitals got back to winning ways at TD Garden on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins. Andre Burakovsky opened the scoring, thanks to a lovely assist from Evgeny Kuznetsov, who then followed up with a goal for himself. Marcus Johansson completed the scoring for the Caps midway through the third period with his 10th goal of the season.
