Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer recently re-proclaimed his love for the Washington Capitals. Apparently the entire Nats team is rooting for the Caps too.

Today’s the day. The spotlight is on, the bandwagon is full and I already feel like I’m going to throw up. We’re at home for Game One and Game Two and anything but a 2-0 start is going to be a tough pill to swallow for this team.
The Flyers of course want to throw this entire area into a chaotic mess. Claude Giroux and the boys come into Washington looking to steal a game before they head back to Philadelphia. Say your prayers, wear your lucky socks, grab a seat and be ready to get on a ride that will only end two ways.

The Capitals know their first round playoff opponent, Alex Ovechkin scored his 50th goal, and Braden Holtby tied Martin Brodeur’s single-season wins record. Surely, that should mean that there is nothing on the line during tonight’s last regular season home game against the Anaheim Ducks, right? Wrong.
The Ducks come into Washington looking for two points, as that would secure them the Pacific Division title and the opportunity to face the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Philipp Grubauer is in the net for the Caps so Holtby will not be going for his record setting 49th win, unless something crazy happens. Again, everyone please just stay healthy.
More liveblog fun below tonight.

Alex Ovechkin has hit the 50 goal mark. Again.
With an even strength one-timer from his office, Alex Ovechkin has hit the 50 goal mark for the seventh time in his career, giving himself a hat trick on the night and his Capitals a 5-1 lead.

Timothy Leif is making his first appearance back in St. Louis after the July trade that sent him to Washington and the Caps are playing in their last regular season road game. The Blues are a good hockey team as we were first hand witness to a few weeks ago in a 4-0 shutout at the Verizon Center. The same main storylines from the previous few games are still relevant tonight as Braden Holtby still looks to chase down Martin Brodeur for the single season wins record, Alex Ovechkin looks to hit 50 goals for the 7th time in his career and this is yet another game that will change nothing heading into the postseason. Just stay healthy.
The majority of RMNB is partying it up at RFD tonight, but don’t fret if you cant make it, because that just means you get to hang out with me!

Look above. That’s a picture of a man who should never have been allowed to leave Washington, DC. He faces off against his former team and your Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center tonight with the rest of the flaming-hot Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens come into town after going 9-1 in their last 10 and that’s without superstar Evgeni Malkin since March 11 and now without starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who has been out with a concussion since the beginning of April. Games between these two teams are always quite the show, and something tells me that even though this is a virtually meaningless game for your Caps, it should be nonetheless entertaining.
Before we get started, did you know that “giant” 5-foot-tall penguins once inhabited the Earth? Carl Hagelin would have had a lot of friends 30 million years ago.
