The Washington Capitals’ 62-man roster and the schedule for the first week of 2025 Training Camp has been released.

The first official, non-testing day of camp is set for Thursday, September 18, when many of the team’s core players will meet with the media for the first time this preseason.

This year’s roster consists of 37 forwards, 18 defensemen, and 7 goalies. Like in previous years, the players will initially be divided into three separate squads (Group A, Group B, and Group C) for skates on varying schedules.

Alex Ovechkin will be on the ice for what could be the final NHL training camp of his career, as he enters the final year of his contract with the Capitals. He’ll be joined by other big-time names on the team’s roster like John Carlson, Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson, Logan Thompson, and Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Sixteen of the players who were in attendance at the Naval Academy for rookie camp this past week will also participate in main camp with the Capitals’ veterans. The standouts in that group include the team’s first-round picks from the last three drafts: Lynden Lakovic, Terik Parascak, and Ryan Leonard.

The camp will also be the first time that players acquired over the summer, like defenseman Declan Chisholm and forward Justin Sourdif, will officially don their new colors. They’ll be fighting for final roster spots on the club with familiar faces like Ivan Miroshnichenko, Hendrix Lapierre, Ethen Frank, Henrik Rybinski, Bogdan Trineyev, and Vincent Iorio.

Unlike in previous seasons, some players under contract with the AHL’s Hershey Bears won’t be in attendance. Names like Lynden Breen, Kyler Kupka, Kaden Bohlsen, Connor Mayer, Simon Pinard, Patrick Guzzo, and John Fusco will likely head straight to Hershey and prepare for the start of the first Bears training camp under new head coach Derek King later this month.

This year’s training camp is the 18th being held at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, and the Capitals will play six preseason games against four opponents, starting on September 21 against the Boston Bruins. Opening Night for the regular season is also against the Bruins, but at home inside Capital One Arena on October 8.

All of the on-ice camp sessions will be open to the public and free of charge.
