Mark your calendars: The Washington Capitals’ 2026-27 schedule is almost here.

The NHL will roll out the schedules for each of its 32 teams over two days next week, starting with the announcement of opening-night matchups on Wednesday, July 15.

Opening-night games will be revealed during the day before the 2026 ESPY Awards (8 pm ET, ABC) and will air exclusively on ESPN in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada. The league will also announce its marquee events for the upcoming season.

The full 2026-27 regular-season schedule will then be released on Thursday, July 16, at 1 pm ET.

The upcoming season will feature each team playing an 84-game schedule for the first time since the 1993-94 season — over 30 years ago — after the league and NHLPA agreed to subtract two preseason games from the schedule.

The announcement comes after a 2025-26 season in which the league said it set records for television viewership and attendance.

After missing the playoffs in 2025-26, the Capitals head into the new season with a revamped roster, adding Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner, and Vincent Desharnais. Alex Ovechkin will also return for a 22nd season in the NHL.
