Marcus Johansson is headed to the Olympics after all.
Tuesday, the former Capitals forward was named as an injury replacement to Team Sweden, replacing Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson.
“Welcome to the Olympics, Marcus! 🇸🇪” the Swedish national team announced on X and translated by X’s Grok. “Marcus Johansson, Minnesota Wild, has been selected for the Tre Kronor men’s Olympic squad. This means Marcus will be participating in his second Olympics (2014).”
The NHL’s Olympic break for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Games begins on February 6 and lasts through February 24. (See all the key dates.)
Johansson’s nod comes as he is having his best season in nine years, recording 34 points (13g, 21a) through his first 48 games.
During his previous Olympic appearance in Sochi, Johansson had an assist in five games as Sweden captured silver. Former Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom also made the team, and the two teammates bicycled around Olympic village together.
Team Sweden made one other roster update, adding Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm as an injury replacement for Wild rearguard Jonas Brodin.
