Logan Thompson is starting in net for the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Montreal Canadiens.
Thompson retakes his crease after leaving the team’s Game 3 loss with 6:37 left in regulation due to an injury caused by a collision with teammate Dylan Strome. Thompson had given up five goals on 35 shots faced before departing for the locker room.
Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir reported the news and tweeted out a video of the Capitals warming up.
Thompson took the ice now wearing a neck guard after taking several shots up high in Game 3.
The 28-year-old backstop participated in the morning skate with his Capitals teammates after missing Saturday’s optional practice. Head coach Spencer Carbery effectively labeled him a game-time decision during his pregame media availability.
Thompson is 2-1 in the series with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Per MoneyPuck, he has saved 2.7 more goals than expected, which ranked fourth among playoff starters coming into Sunday’s games.
While Thompson will play on Sunday, the Capitals will not get Aliaksei Protas back from his skate-cut ailment yet. Despite being a full participant in battle drills in the morning, Protas will miss his 10th consecutive game.
