Alex Ovechkin broke the NHL goals record on April 6. And according to Fanatics, that wasn’t the only record he broke that day.
Ovechkin set Fanatics’ all-time single-day merch sales record for an NHL player, aided by new items released celebrating him becoming the league’s new goals king.
Per a Caps PR infographic posted on X:
On April 6:
- Alex Ovechkin set a Fanatics record for the most single day merchandise sales by an NHL player ever
- Ovechkin was the top-selling player across all sports while the Capitals were the best-selling team across all sports
- 7 of the top 10 selling products across the entire fanatics network were related to the record-breaking moment
Shirts, hats, hoodies, signed photos and pucks, and a Fanatics exclusive Funko were all released within minutes of Ovechkin breaking the record. Several items sold out on the same day, including the red locker room hat that Capitals players wore on the ice during the NHL’s celebration at UBS Arena.
Fanatics has continued to add new goals record items to their store since then, including 500 Level-designed shirts (including the tee Capitals players wore to Capital One Arena for Ovi’s GR895 Pre-Game Ceremony), a black no. 8 hat, and a belly flop celebration shirt. See the entire collection on Fanatics’ website.
Fanatics also announced over the weekend that Ovechkin had the most popular jersey during the 2024-25 NHL regular season.
