On January 16, 2006, Alex Ovechkin scored The Goal on Arizona Coyotes goaltender Brian Boucher. While falling and corkscrewing on the ice, Ovi blindly pushed the puck into the back of the net. “Simply sensational!” a stunned Joe Beninati screamed. Wayne Gretzky, the Pheonix Coyotes’ head coach at the time, looked on from the bench in awe.
Now you can, too, from the safety of your own home! Friday, FOCO released an Alex Ovechkin bobblehead commemorating The Goal. It features Ovi, in the Caps’ former Screaming Eagle design, twisting and scoring from his back. And yes, he has all his teeth and the laces are yellow.
The bobblehead is the third in a series of Ovi bobbles that have been released in honor of Ovechkin hitting the 700 goals plateau earlier this year. The previous two Ovi bobbleheads that had goal counters sold out quickly (the first did in a day) and were recently shipped out last week.

The Goal was the most brilliant tally of Ovechkin’s Calder Trophy-winning rookie season. He became only the second rookie ever to score 50 goals and 100 points. It was the first of only two seasons Ovechkin wore the team’s screaming eagle jersey. Earlier this year, the jersey Ovechkin scored in was put up for auction and went for over $111k.
The bobblehead is available for preorder here. Only 2,020 bobbleheads have been created and once they’re gone – they’re gone forever. RMNB is first releasing the bobblehead because we suggested the idea and participated in the design process.
A Tom Wilson bobblehead featuring the Capitals’ first-line winger with his dog Halle is also available. If you buy both the Ovechkin and Wilson bobblehead, you will get 10 percent off the Wilson bobblehead if you use the coupon code RMNBOBBLE.
The proceeds of the Wilson bobblehead benefit Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, where Tom and his girlfriend Taylor adopted the pup.
