On Friday, an Alex Ovechkin goal-counter bobblehead was released. With the NHL season frozen due to the coronavirus, I was unsure how Capitals fans would respond.
The bobblehead sold out in 24 hours. 2,020 were purchased- a new single-day record for FOCO (10x more than its previous record).
Due to that overwhelming demand, FOCO released a new Ovechkin goal-counter bobblehead on Sunday so that those who missed out previously could still get their hands on one.
The design is different.
Ovechkin wears an away jersey and lifts his arms to salute his adoring public. It’s based on the moment when Ottawa Senators fans gave Alex Ovechkin a standing ovation after the Russian machine passed Mark Messier in goals.
The original idea of an Ovechkin goal-counting bobblehead came from RMNB and we consulted with FOCO on this new design released today.
Goal and point-counting bobbleheads are rare and wildly popular to the public. The Capitals offered an Ovi point-counting bobblehead as a gift to fans who bought a holiday package in 2016. Those bobbleheads were created to celebrate The Great 8 reaching 1,000 points in his career. Over the last few years, those bobbleheads have sold for hundreds of dollars on re-selling sites like eBay. And again, the previous Ovi goal-counting bobblehead released on Friday sold out in a single day. So I suggest you grab one fast before they’re gone for good.
FOCO also sells a wide variety of creative sports merch, including these ultra-warm Capitals hoodeez and these fantastic Washington Nationals World Series champions bobbleheads.
Russian Machine Never Breaks is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
