Former Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer started his first career outdoor game as the Colorado Avalanche took on the Los Angeles Kings at Falcon Stadium.
“It’s been marked on the calendar since we got the schedule. Super exciting coming out here,” Grubauer said. “I think it’s an incredible experience and I think we’re really lucky.”
During the Avalanche’s practice outdoors, Grubauer rocked a GoPro and the footage is incredible.

The NHL also posted some raw footage from Grubauer’s GoPro on their Twitter account.

“Can’t see anything,” Grubauer can be heard saying as the sun shines brightly onto the ice. “I didn’t see one single shot they just took.”
The rest of the video shows off Grubauer’s kindness as he compliments his teammates as they score on him.
Grubauer had a special mask painted for game. It features a yeti painted on the side.
Earlier in the week, Grubauer posed for a photo with fellow former Capital Andre Burakovsky in front of the rink.
“We played on the pond a couple times growing up (in Germany) when it was cold enough,” Grubauer added. “No games like this so this is really unique and really special. It doesn’t happen too many times your career so I think everybody has to soak it in. We need to make sure it’s a good memory by winning the game.”
