Nic Dowd has been a healthy scratch three times so far this season. After sitting out against the Leafs, he’s scored a goal in consecutive games.
His first goal of the season came against the New York Rangers, and his first career shorthanded goal gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The SHG came in the second period after Carl Hagelin intercepted a pass from Patrick Kane and showed off his speed with an odd-man rush into the Blackhawks’ end. A quick pass to Nic Dowd was all he needed to get it past Corey Crawford.
Dowd’s first goal of the season was in the Capitals’ last game, against the Rangers, when he netted a rebound from a Dmitry Orlov shot.
Dowd’s only other shorthanded point came with the Capitals last season. The center registered an assist on a shorthanded goal. The Capitals’ other SHG of this season so far came from Tom Wilson on October 10.
Despite his back-and-forth lace on the Capitals’ roster, and average time on ice of only 10:30 minutes per game, Dowd now has three points in seven games.
His first SHG came with a heroic hairstyle to match.
