Radko Gudas hip checks Dylan Strome into the air, lands three hits in six seconds

Radko Gudas had himself quite a night against the Chicago Blackhawks.

During the waning seconds of the first period, Gudas fought Connor Murphy after the Blackhawks defenseman attempted to land a high and stupid hit on Alex Ovechkin. It was Gudas’ second straight game where he defended a teammate.

But Gudas had more pain to deliver. And deliver it he did. In the third period, Gudas doled out three hits in six seconds, including a hip check that sent Dylan Strome high into the air.

Windy City win: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals got their long road trip underway in Chicago, taking down the Blackhawks 5-3 for their third regulation time win in a row.

The Blackhawks out-shot the Caps 44 to 30 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 64 to 43.

John Walton pointed out that the Capitals outscored the Redskins on Sunday

The Washington Redskins got shut out by the San Francisco 49ers 9-0, Sunday, in a soggy, mud-filled game at FedEx Field. It was the DC football team’s sixth loss in seven games of what is already another harrowing season.

Later that night, Capitals radio announcer John Walton, who always stays up and up on local DC sports current events, put in perspective just how bad things are for the Redskins after TJ Oshie scored the Capitals’ first goal of the game.

Capitals salute Nationals, play ‘This Is How We Do It’ after beating Blackhawks

The Washington Capitals are all-in with their support of the Washington Nationals.

Sunday, after the Capitals defeated the Blackhawks 5-3, they blasted Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It in the locker room. The music can be heard in the background as the Capitals videoed their postgame fist bumps.

“THIS IS HOWIE DO IT,” the Capitals tweeted.

John Carlson has 18 points in 10 games, which is historically buckwild

After signing a big contract last summer, John Carlson seems determined to deliver a return on the Washington Capitals’ investment. When he set up Alex Ovechkin for a one-timer goal in Sunday’s game, Carlson earned the 15th assist and 18th point of his season.

Racking up so many points in just 10 games puts Carlson in the company of legendary defenders like Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey.

Road trip starts right: Caps beat Hawks 5-3

The Washington Capitals didn’t put together their best effort to start their season-long road trip, but it was still enough to beat the Chicago Blackhawks.

TJ Oshie continued his hot streak, quickly converting a first period power play. After getting rebuffed by Braden Holtby for 25 or so shots., the Hawks finally beat him off Drake Caggiula’s stick. Nic Dowd got a shorthanded goal a few minutes later thanks to some smooth moves from Carl Hagelin.

The Caps killed more penalties in the third period and extended their lead with an Alex Ovechkin one-timer set up by John Carlson, but that lead didn’t last. Dominik Kubalik made it a one-goal game by finishing off a long scramble in the crease, and then Hawks tied it with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

But Tom Wilson restored Washington’s lead a few minutes later with a backdoor one-touch assisted by Carl Hagelin. Lars Eller added an empty-netter, and that was that.

Caps win 5-3!

Nic Dowd scores first career shorthanded goal, has goals in consecutive games

Nic Dowd has been a healthy scratch three times so far this season. After sitting out against the Leafs, he’s scored a goal in consecutive games.

His first goal of the season came against the New York Rangers, and his first career shorthanded goal gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Radko Gudas will not accept your high, unnecessary hits on Alex Ovechkin 👊

Connor Murphy learned an important lesson during the first period of the Capitals-Blackhawks game. Do not try to land a stupid hit on Alex Ovechkin, especially one at the end of the period, or your face will be pummeled multiple times.

Radko Gudas, a former division rival who used to be hated by Caps fans, came to Ovechkin’s defense and metaphorically told Murphy you can’t do that.
