It’s been a rough year for New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider. The former 2016 NHL All-Star hasn’t won a regular season game in the past calendar year. Schneider has put up a record of 0-15-3 since December 27, 2017.
That is really, really bad.
During the 2017-18 regular season, Schneider started off strong but was sidelined with a groin injury halfway through the season. Failing to regain his form, Schneider lost the starting spot until Game Three of the first round of the playoffs. Schneider had offseason hip surgery in May.
After playing in nine games this season, Schneider was again placed on the injured reserve on December 17 with an abdominal strain.
The 32-year-old is still playing under a seven-year $42 million contract ($6M AAV) he signed in 2014. The contract expires at the end of the 2021-22 season.
