After the Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and became Eastern Conference Champions, WUSA 9 asked if they could come to RMNB headquarters and do a TV feature. I said sure – even though I had only one hour of sleep the night before.
As most of you know by now, RMNB headquarters, at least for me, is my basement (which Alan May will never let me hear the end about).
The interview was conducted by Scott Broom.

A few notes:
- I was specifically asked not to dress up and wear what I would normally would for a game. So this is me in all my, uh, journalism glory: really dumb socks that barely fit my gigantor feet, a RMNB t-shirt, and gym shorts.
- This quote from Scott’s story was so kind. “Oland rarely attends games. Instead, he experiences them like most fans do, by watching them on the big screen in his basement… The effect in RMNB’s online coverage is authentic.”
- In this moment of time the feature was filmed, our website was struggling big time to handle the onslaught of traffic the night before and I was very, very stressed out. I hope I hid it well. For instance, I was asked to load RMNB up on my computer and it didn’t actually load. This was when we all realized we had to fix the site and move it over to a new host regardless of any issues that may have come of that. And as you know already – we successfully did so on May 30 and we haven’t gone down once since during the Stanley Cup Final.
- Our end of May numbers for the site were 3.45 million pageviews. It’s mind-boggling and I don’t comprehend it. Thank you??
I also want to give a quick shoutout to David Phillips who sent me his vanity RMNB Virginia license plate days before this shoot happened. I made sure to place it in the shot so he knew how much I deeply appreciated the gesture.
As always, these opportunities don’t happen without you, dear reader. So when I post these, just know, I am honored by the opportunity to represent y’all and I hope you share the same pride I do in these moments. <3
