Matt Niskanen’s Niscannon Puts Nicklas Backstrom First in NHL Points (GIF)

Nicklas Backstrom has been insanely good this year. Today has been no different. For the Caps’ first goal, he took the puck in the Caps defensive zone, skated around four different Islander players in the offensive zone, and put a perfect pass into Matt Niskanen‘s wheel house. Niskanen unleashed the Niscannon, going top shelf.

Look how excited Backstrom is after this goal.

The primary assist gave Backstrom his 64th point on the season. He’s now in sole possession of first place in NHL points, jumping ahead of Chicago’s Patrick Kane. He also leads the league in assists with 46.

I think Nick Backstrom gets more excited when his teammates score.

Here’s him after Nisky’s goal today.
