The NHL Centennial Fan Arena will be visiting Washington DC on September 22 and 23

2017 was the NHL’s 100th year in existence. Last season the league kicked the celebrations off in style with two outdoor games on New Year’s Weekend. The NHL also named its top 100 players of all-time, which included six current or former Capitals: Alex Ovechkin, Mike Gartner, Scott Stevens, Adam Oates, Sergei Fedorov, and Jaromir Jagr.

The league also has a year-long roaming exhibit: the NHL Centennial Fan Arena. The Arena, almost like a mini hockey hall of fame on wheels, would be making a stop in each team’s market over the course of 2017. September 22 and 23 the Centennial Fan Arena will be making its stop in the nation’s capital.

In the Centennial Fan Arena, fans can discover a variety of things to do and see. The biggest part of the Arena is the Museum Truck: a 53-foot trailer full of memorabilia, interactive displays, video, and more, tailored just for the Caps market.

Fans can also become a virtual Zamboni driver with a “Clear the Ice” VR game. But the biggest draw of the day will most likely be the Stanley Cup itself on display for fans to see (BUT PLEASE, WE BEG, NO TOUCHING).

The Fan Arena will be taking place outside Capital One Arena on F Street September 22 and 23 prior to the Capitals’ preseason home games those evenings. Season ticket holders will get the first exclusive chances to visit: from 2:30 PM – 4 PM on Friday and 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday. The exhibits will be open to the public from 4-6 PM on Friday and 2-6 pm on Saturday.

The Capitals will also be hosting a street hockey tournament for DC Public School students and members of the American Special Hockey Association as part of the festivities from 10:30 AM – 2 PM and select player autographs will be available from 5 – 6 PM.

All exhibits and festivities of the Centennial Fan Arena are free.
