The Capitals lost to the lowly Colorado Avalanche 6-2 Thursday and their disappointment was readily apparent after the game.
While speaking with reporters, head coach Barry Trotz admitted that he was “disappointed” and “angry” with his team. “I expected a lot better,” he said.

“I am absolutely disappointed, angry, a lot of different emotions,” Trotz said to reporters. “I expected a lot better. I expected a better start. Not great. I thought we were slow and sort of lethargic. We’ve talked two straight games about coming out of that and we’re down a goal right away.
“There were only two areas I can think of that we were good at tonight: faceoffs. I thought we were pretty good in the faceoff circle. Our power play actually generated a lot of chances and a lot of zone time which is good to see that it’s coming around.
“Other than that… puck battles and races and one-on-one play, it was all junk.”
The Capitals play their next nine out of ten games at home, but one wonders what changes, if any, Trotz or Brian MacLellan may make before their matchup against Minnesota Saturday night.
