With second period tally, Tom Wilson sets new career highs in goals and points

Capitals forward Tom Wilson just set a new career high in goals and he did so in front of his biggest fan.

Keven Wilson, Tom’s papa, was in attendance at XCEL Center as part of the Capitals’ annual Dads Trip. Tom gave the Capitals an early 1-0 lead.

After taking a pass from Alex Ovechkin, Wilson skated in and ripped a shot to the top corner of the net. As Craig Laughlin would say, that’s a goalscorer’s goal.

Keven, sitting in a suite with the rest of the Caps mentors, exchanged a high five with a fellow dad.

The goal is #TopLineTom’s eighth goal of the season. On the tally, he also set a career high in points with 24. There are 26 games remaining in the season.

Wilson scored seven goals during the previous two seasons in 82 games.

Update: Wilson also scored an empty-net goal.
