With a deke and a quick flick of the wrists, Dmitry Orlov set a new career high in goals Thursday against the New York Islanders.
Orlov scored late in the first period to give the Caps a 3-2 lead – a lead they would never surrender, winning 7-3.

After taking a pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov (Kuzy had three assists on the night), Orlov deked around Andrew Ladd and got a shot off before Thomas Hickey’s could sweep the puck away.
The Russian defenseman found some space between Christopher Gibson’s pads and deposited the puck into the back of the net. SCOARLOV!
The goal was Orlov’s ninth goal of the season – one more than he had during the 2015-16 season (8).

The goal was the first tally for Orlov since February 11, ending a 14 game scoreless streak.
Overall on the evening, Orlov and his d-partner Matt Niskanen struggled against the New York Islanders at even strength. Orlov was out-attempted 18 to 10 (35.7 shot attempt percentage) while Niskanen finished 17-11 (39.3).
