The Washington Capitals recently welcomed a new face to represent the team, and he’s already proving he’s the pick of the litter. While his small frame and young age may raise some concerns, this new goalie’s bite backs up his bark– according to his player card, he has a chomp force of 3,280 PSI.

Appropriately named Logan Chompson, the shepard mix will represent the Capitals in the third-ever Stanley Pup premiering on June 8th.

The Stanley Pup is a competition among adoptable rescue dogs to not only celebrate the Stanley Cup Final but also help its competitors get adopted. Each NHL team is represented by a rescue dog, and some are still available for adoption through Brandywine Valley SPCA.

Chompson will play with and against other dog players such as Brad Marchound, Matthew Shaefurry, Jack and Quinn Chews, and Macklin Celewienie. He will also be joined by some of his fellow Washington Capitals, with Alex Ovechkin and Logan Thompson making appearances. Thompson also made an appearance at last year’s event.

Thompson has already shown some support for his namesake goaltender, posting Chompson’s player card to his Instagram Story.

There will be appearances from half a dozen NHLers, along with broadcasters and other celebrity dog lovers, including legendary broadcaster Doc Emrick. Alexa Landestoy will report rinkside.

The inaugural Stanley Pup only included 16 dogs representing each playoff team, but the competition was expanded to include every team last year. The Washington Capitals were represented by Alex Ofetchkin in 2024 and John Snarlson in 2025. Ofetchkin was a part of the inaugural Stanley Pup winning team.

This year, the broadcast will also feature follow-ups on three former Stanley Pup players, highlighting their lives and families at their forever homes.

With the expanded 32-team layout, the two Eastern Divisions and the two Western Divisions will first compete against one another, with the winners moving on to compete in the final and the chance to eat out of the Stanley Pup.

Chompson will look to help bring Lord Stanley’s K-9 Cup to the Metropolitan Division, after the squad fell short last year in the Eastern Conference matchup. His teammates will include: Seth Arfis, Bone Jenner, Jack Chews, Matthew Schaefurry, Gabe Pawreault, Owen Nip-it, and Kris Lefang.

Viewers in the US can tune into truTV and HBOMax on June 8 at 9:30 p.m. ET and again on June 9 at 4:30 p.m. ET. The event will also be available on NHL YouTube June 9 starting a 9 a.m. ET and on NHL Network June 10 and 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET.

The Stanley Pup will also air in the DC region starting June 15 on Monumental Sports Network, and will be available on MNMT’s streaming platforms and linear tv following the national broadcasts.

A majority of pups have already been adopted, including Logan Chompson (whose legal name is Yaretzi). You can find more information about the dogs still up for adoption at bvspca.org/stanleypup.
