HERSHEY, PA — Sonny Milano will not play for the Hershey Bears in Game 4 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, but Bears head coach Derek King says the offensively-gifted winger seems to be on track for a return on Saturday if Game 5 is necessary.
“I think he’s ready to go,” Bears head coach Derek King told voice of the Bears, Zack Fisch, after the team’s morning skate. “I just think the conditioning part of it needs to get there, needs to get a couple more skates in. We’ll see how he does tonight, see how he feels after the skate this morning. He’s here, he’s ready to go, so hopefully we need him on Saturday.”
Milano played both games of the team’s opening round series against the Bridgeport Islanders, scoring an empty-net goal in Game 2, before being sidelined with what the team termed an “illness.” The Massapequa, New York native did not travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for the first two games of the Bears’ second-round series against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and missed Game 3 at home.
“Yeah, he’s seeing a doctor today just with his illness,” Bears head coach Derek King said after practice on Monday before Game 3. “I’m not 100 percent sure what it is. Doctors come in and talk to me, and I’m not a doctor. Some of the language I hear, it’s like, ‘Okay, is he going to be ready or not?’ So hopefully soon we’ll know more.”
Milano began the postseason skating on the left wing of the third line with Jalen Luypen and Brett Leason.
