Logan Thompson may be playing second fiddle to Jordan Binnington in goal, but he’s still showing support in any way he can to Team Canada in the Olympics.
Monday, Thompson jumped onto his Instagram Story to brag about his national team comrade, Tom Wilson, after the Washington Capitals winger had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick against France.
“Only @tomwilson,” Thompson wrote. “That’s my bestie. That’s my bestie.”

During Canada’s 10-2 win over France, Wilson registered a goal, an assist, and a fighting major — he fought the Frenchmen’s Pierre Crinon after a head hit to Nathan MacKinnon — which gave the Canadians the number one seed in the Olympics’ playoff tournament.
Calling Wilson his “bestie” continues a fun, new development between the pair, as Thompson has previously found more joy in stirring things up with Tom in the Capitals locker room. Over the past year, Thompson has put an egg in Wilson’s locker stall during the playoffs, put a piece of tape on Tom’s helmet with a smiley face, and had one of his goalie masks painted to feature Wilson’s swollen face.

“It’s just really easy to get under his skin,” Thompson said earlier in the season. “For a big, tough guy, I always think he’s pretty soft. So it’s easy to egg him on a little bit. I don’t think I’d ever fight him, but it’s definitely easy. It’s fun to get him going for sure.”
But since being named to Team Canada — the “big head” jokes have stopped — and the frenemies have leaned more into their love and respect for each other.
“I think I speak for everyone in the room, that everyone would be really disappointed Tom wasn’t there,” Thompson said the day he was named to Canada’s Olympic team on December 21. “Thankful to be there with him, going over with a teammate, best friend.”
He highlighted that closeness again in another exchange.
“It’s going to be fun,” Wilson said. “I get to go over there with the best goalie in the world. We’re two best buds.”
“Two best friends,” Thompson added.
