The Washington Capitals’ six-game road trip didn’t go as planned, but they at least finished it off with a bang, defeating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 (SO) at Little Caesars Arena.

After the victory, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery gave his team props, as well as the reward of not having to take the ice on Friday once they return home.

“It’s a huge f***ing win for our group,” he said. “Let’s get this out of the way first. Enjoy the f***ing day off tomorrow. It’s been a long f***ing trip. Logged a lot of miles. You guys have earned that. To get this win at the end of the trip we’ll reset when we get back home. But enjoy the time with the family tomorrow for sure. Okay?”

The Capitals play the Carolina Hurricanes at Capital One Arena with puck drop at 5 pm on Saturday.

Carbery made sure to give props to Nic Dowd, who not only scored the game-deciding shootout goal, but also the team’s first tally of the night.

“A couple things tonight. Okay? This guy started it for us on his first f***ing forecheck. First f***ing shift. Nic Dowd,” Carbery said. “That was f***ing unbelievable tonight.”

Then he turned his attention to Charlie Lindgren, who got injured at the end of overtime, and had to be carried off the ice by his teammates after the shootout win.

“We deal with some late game adversity. We stay with it,” Carbery said. “Hey, and Chucky f***ing playing on one f***ing leg. Might have zero legs. And on top of that, we’ve got guys f***ing stepping up in the shootout in high-pressure situations. Those are huge f***ing goals.”

Finally, Carbery gave praise to the team’s penalty kill, who killed all four of Detroit’s power plays.

“PK, fantastic job,” he said.

“All right, me. Enjoy the day. Let’s get this out of here.”
