The Washington Capitals may be without two of their top defenders for a second straight game.
Head coach Spencer Carbery would not commit to either Rasmus Sandin or Matt Roy playing against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.
“Both guys are questionable and potential for tonight,” Carbery said pregame.
The two defensemen did not play against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday and are both out with lower-body injuries. In Seattle, Dylan McIlrath and Declan Chisholm drew in as the Capitals’ third pairing.
Sandin seemingly suffered his injury against the Edmonton Oilers last weekend, skating just 5:07 of ice time before departing the game in the first period. Roy finished the game against the Oilers but sat out for the first time this season against Seattle.
Coming into the game, the Capitals are 1-3-1 on their six-game road trip, with their season potentially in the balance if they don’t turn things around quickly. After their loss to the Kraken, the team’s playoff qualification odds dropped to 30.5 percent, per MoneyPuck.
The Red Wings are solidly locked into second place in the Atlantic Division and have won seven of their last 10 games. They defeated the Capitals on back-to-back nights last month.
Charlie Lindgren will start for the Capitals with Logan Thompson out due to an upper-body injury.
