Live updates: Washington Capitals vs Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place

The Washington Capitals finally got the first win of their season-long six-game road trip (1-2-0), defeating the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Friday. Now, they’re in Edmonton for a scheduled loss against the Oilers.

The Oilers come into the game losers of two straight in regulation, but are 5-3-2 over their last 10. After a tough start to the season, the Oilers have surged into second place in the Pacific Division. Connor McDavid continues to be Connor McDavid. He’s second in points (85) and goals (30).

The Capitals will come into puck drop with the same lines from last night. Charlie Lindgren will get the start and oppose Connor Ingram on the other end.

Puck drop for today’s game is scheduled for a little after 10 pm. Today’s game is on Monumental Sports Network. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin have the call.

1st Period

Puck is dropped. Protas-Sourdif-Wilson and Fehervary-Carlson get the start for the Capitals.

Charlie Lindgren goes to the full splits to stop Matthew Savoie wide open in front of the net on his backhand.

Martin Fehervary draws a penalty as he skates hard up the ice trying to win a puck battle along the sideboards. Vasily Podkolzin to the box for interference at 3:14.

Justin Sourdif misses badly with a pass from behind the Oilers’ net and sends it all the way down the ice to Charlie Lindgren while on the power play. Lost about 15-20 seconds of power-play time there.

2nd Period

Matthew Savoie tripped by Lindgren — he just skated over Lindgren’s stick as he made a save — and the Oilers go to the power play at 4:36.

Oilers did everything but score on that power play. Holy moly. You can see why they have the game’s best power play currently.

After a great chip up the boards by Lapierre, Sourdif skates down and rips a shot from the left circle short side. Ingram was expecting Sourdif to pass. Great shot.

Rasmus Sandin leaves the game and goes back down to the locker room.

Darnell Nurse wins a race for an icing call, but no call, he’s screaming at officials and we’re picking up the loud f-bombs on MNST.

Caps take the puck down the ice. Horrible pass by Carlson into the skates of Beauvillier, but Beauvi’s shot beats Ingram five hole after the shot deflects off an Oilers leg and in.

Ingram is being replaced by Tristan Jarry in net.
