The Washington Capitals appeared to celebrate John Carlson’s 600-assist milestone after flying to Calgary.
Thursday, around 1 pm (MST), Dylan Strome posted a photo to his Instagram Story of Alex Ovechkin and Jakub Chychrun posing with Carlson in front of two Stella Artois-labeled glasses full of beer. The team had the day off on Thursday before a back-to-back against the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers on Friday and Saturday.
“600 🍎 club,” Strome wrote with arrows pointing to Carlson and Ovechkin. He also added another arrow pointing toward Chychrun, labeled “soon.” Chychrun has 185 assists in 590 career games thus far.
Carlson became the 21st defenseman in NHL history to reach the 600-assist milestone on Wednesday night after recording two assists against the Vancouver Canucks. The Capitals lost 4-3 to the Canucks, who snapped an 11-game losing streak.
According to RMNB contributor and Calgary native KP, the Capitals players appeared to be at JOEY Eau Claire, a high-end restaurant and bar with popular locations in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Ottawa.
The choice of Stella Artois continued recent tradition as the Capitals dumped cans of the beer on Ovechkin after he scored his milestone 894th and 900th career goals.
While the players had a nice time at lunch, the team’s broadcasters, including Joe Beninati, Craig Laughlin, Al Koken, John Walton, and Ken Sabourin, went bowling at the National during their day off in the city. Walton posted a photo of the crew together, noting that the radio crew took home the victory.
