Tom Wilson was unable to play against the Anaheim Ducks due to a lower-body injury, but he still managed to make an impact in a big way after the Washington Capitals’ 7-4 victory.
Wilson, who was wearing a full suit, snuck down the tunnel and poured a bottle of blue Powerade over Justin Sourdif’s head as he did his post-game interview with Al Koken on the bench. Wilson then ran back to the locker room.
A surprised Sourdif took a second to re-gather himself and then smiled it off, completing the interview like the total pro that he is.
“Just like that,” Sourdif said. “We all love each other in there. When the guys are so close like that and having fun, it’s so easy to play, and it’s fun to come to the rink.”
Sourdif on the night had five points, scoring three goals — his first professional hat trick — and assisting on two others. He is the only rookie in the NHL this season to record a five-point game. Only one other rookie in Capitals history has recorded five points in a game: defenseman Greg Theberge (Nov. 21, 1981).
